Suggest Treatment For Painful Swelling In The Knee After Meniscus Surgery
I had meniscus repair surgery in April of 2015, I learned that the Dr removed 60% of the cartilage. I had severe pain after the surgery and had a Synvisc injection in July 2015 with pain relief in 2 days. The severe pain started again in Sept of 2016 and I again had a Synvisc injection with no pain relief. The Dr told me the cartilage is worn out. I continue to have severe pain with no relief from Tylenol, Aleve, Ibuprofen or Tylenol#3 or heat or ice packs . I have noticed that at the end of the day, after walking at work all day, there is significant swelling on the inner side of the knee. What can I do for pain relief?
Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
I suggest you to consult a physiotherapist. He would advise few exercises to strengthen your leg muscles and bring down your pain. Also he would try some ultrasound or infrared therapy for pain relief. If the problem is too distressing you may require a knee replacement surgery.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Deepti Shivakumar
