Suggest Treatment For Painful Thumb

My thumb hurts when I pick up the baby when I open my hands and cup them under her arm pits. This pain started quickly, no swelling, no damage to it that I can recall. First noticed it when golfing, on the first tee on my follow through. Taped it up and played the round without pain. This was about 3 weeks ago, the pain is still there when I use it in various ways.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Your symptoms seem to be related to rheumatoid arthritis. I suggest doing a rheumatoid factor level for evaluation.

Meanwhile, I suggest using anti-inflammatory medications such as Ibuprofen to relieve the pain. I also suggest using cold compresses for local applications.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
