Suggest Treatment For Panic Disorder

I was recently hospitalized for a panic disorder. My psychiatrist gave me lorazepam. I accidently overdosed on the medicine because it didn t relieve my symptoms. I was successful in the past with alprazolam, for several years. Will this affect me in getting the medication I need? I don t drink or use drugs, although I am a recovering alchoholic, Two years now?

Hi,

Yes, taking Lorazopam gets you used to the medication and the same dose may not be effective after some time. Similarly increasing dose yourself can lead to complications(as you had). In such case:
- Consult your psychiatrist for change in medication and doses.
- Combine medications with your self help like psychological concentration exercises (yoga meditation or tai chi.
- Your doctor may advice psychotherapy or cognitive behavioral therapy to accompany medicines.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

General & Family Physician Dr. Dr.Albana Sejdini's  Response
Hello,

If you accidentally overdosed on Lorazepam dose only once, then, do not worry for this time. Unless, you make a habit to overdose again. Only in this case, it will affect in getting the medication you need. Otherwise, it won't affect. Keep regular follow up with your caring doctor. Try not to increase or decrease dose or stop medication without taking an opinion by your doctor first.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
