Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello I am a 53 year old woman recently suspected of having papillary Carcenoma. Based on the suspicion my Endocronologist suggests I go for total thyroidectomy. Is that the normal and only solution? Removing the thyroid totally is what worries me. Please advise.
It should not worry you since this is done for decades and there are no significant consequences because thyroid hormones are replaced with hormonal supplements and it works normally. Carcinoma of thyroid is serious disease and anything but total thyroidectomy would be too risky for tumor recurrence.
I hope I have answered your query. I wish you a nice day.
