Suggest Treatment For Paranoid Schizophrenia

My son is suffering with paranoid schizophrenia from several years. Now he is 26 years, completed MBBS, Some days he used clozopine then from last one year Elicia 4mg one in morning and one at evening. During this one year he has stopped using this medicine for abut 4 months and later resumed. But the paranoid schizophrenia effects are still persist and he is more aggressive attacking parents and younger brother on pretty matters. Please advise.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Dr. Hanif warmly Welcomes you!

Thanks for consulting at my virtual clinic. I have carefully worked through your case, and I can realize your health worries. Being your physician, I assure you not to worry as I will take care all of your medical concerns.

First of all I want to add here that there is no more Subtypes of Schizophrenia now. American Psychiatric Association (APA) guidelines have been changed. Due to many solid reasons APA has removed Schizophrenia subtypes from DSM-5.

Antipsychotic medications are good to help for Positive symptoms of Schizophrenia and also prevent relapse.

Clozapine is very effective a medicine for this disease but it isn't recommended as first line therapy.

I have proved it clinically that Psychosocial treatments are highly effective in treating such patients and the best-studied and experimented successfully psychosocial treatments include:
Social skills training
Social cognitive training
Cognitive-Behavioral therapy
Cognitive remediation
You should ask his Psychiatrist for these treatment options for your son.

The purpose of the above methods of treatment are to avoid patient's hospitalization and not affecting his daily life activities of work and studies.

Medications:-
If I was his treating physician I would have prescribed him with Aripirazole antipsychotic drug if not allergic to and ofcourse a follow up after a couple of weeks.

Hope I answered all of your health concerns . If you have further questions in future, feel free to contact me anytime & I will get back to you in no time. Please give a positive feedback.

Have a wonderful time ahead.

Best Regards!
