Hi I was diagnosed with pars defects l5 s1 2011. I was a gymnast until I was 14 years old then gave due it this injury, but not diagnosed till much later on in life. the last 3 months the pain has got much worse,I m unable to do any for of exercise ,nhs will not give me a scan I have been on co-codamol and naproxen, which helps but I have to take both every 4 hours. The pain is so great and at its worse when I lie down. I personally have seen Chinese docks, had acupuncture, chiropractors, massage therapist, osteopaths and it just goes on and on. I m happy to pay for a diagnosis as I have problems in my neck too And I m 100% I have isthmic spondylitis , but no one will scan or X-ray. The problem has been there at lease 15 years, but has got very bad over last 3-6 months. Please help I am willing to travel and pay, I would just like to know what s wrong so I can treat it correctly

Hi,

It is your neural pain. Try to take some physiotherapy sessions for 6 weeks. Apart from medicines you are taking, please take tab pregabalin 75 mg twice a day for one week. Try to get an MRI (lumbo-sacral spine) and share the reports with your doctor.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shivika Nath, General & Family Physician
