I have perenial allergic rhinitis. It gets worsen in rainy season with apperance of allergic conjuctivitis symptoms (redness, itching, swelling on rubbing, feeling of somethoing in the eyes). I am already taking Fexofenadine+Montelukast. What could be the reason that fexofenadine is not able to control eye symptoms. How much relief can be expected from Phenylephrine+Naphazoline eye drops? Is it advised to take antihistamine eye drops (+chlorpheniramine) on consulatation. At what stage, should I consider to take olopatadine drops after consulting opthalmologist. Please answer my queries. Thank you very much.
There is no permanent treatment for any kind of allergy. The symptoms of allergy can only be controlled by avoiding contact with the allergic agent.
Seasonal allergy can be controlled by anti-histaminic drugs and light steroid eye drops if the symptoms cannot be controlled by anti-histaminic eye drops.
I suggest you to consult your ENT specialist and ophthalmologist for the prescription of the right kind of drugs.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Shailja Puri, Pathologist and Microbiologist
