Suggest Treatment For Periodic Heartburn

I am 71 yr old gentleman and have had periodic heartburn for some months. Had been using the OTC omerprazole and that seemed to help. However, in the last few weeks the heartburn/acid reflux has been almost daily and the OTC does not control it. Would OTC nexium be better?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Your symptoms seem to be related to heartburn. I suggest using over the counter option to lower the acidity in the stomach such as Prilosec. I also suggest using antacids such as Maalox three times a day. I recommend to avoid food that can trigger the symptoms such as spicy food.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
