Suggest Treatment For Periodic Pain In The Chest

I am having periodic pain in the right side of my chest. The pain occurs for about 20-25 seconds, then stops for several minutes, then occurs again for the 20-25 seconds. This has been ongoing for the last several hours in a regular pattern. What might be going on here?

Hello,

I read your message carefully and I understood your medical problem.
You report to have chest pain on the right side on and off, in a regular pattern (20-25 seconds, then stops for several minutes, then occurs again for 20-25 seconds).

Pain in right side of the chest is not something to panic about because it is not related to heart troubles.

It is important to determine the cause and treat it.

If you have stomach problems like reflux, indigestion or heartburn you may have this kind of pain. Also, gallbladder troubles, liver and pancreas inflammations, pleuritis and other pulmonary diseases may cause you chest pain.

If the pain does not go away after a few days or it gets worse you must definitely see a doctor because you need further diagnostic investigations like:
- good clinical examination
- chest X-ray
- pulmonary function test
- abdominal ultrasound
- Doppler ultrasound of blood vessels in the chest to exclude aorta issues

For the moment, I advise to take an oral pain killer like paracetamol or ibuprofen. If the pain is not subsided and if associated with difficulty in breathing or heart palpitations, should go to ER.

I hope this was useful for you.
