Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 69 years old---my ankles swell very badly every afternoon. peripheral edema I believe is what they call it. I have had 2 hip replacement and 2 hip revisions--- I am on a diuretic and potassium. I have had a complete knee replacement on March 15,2016 on the leg that has the worst ankle swelling. I swim laps 3 times a week for 30 minutes. What can I do to get rid of the swelling? I can not just sit with my feet up all the time.
Movement. Moving and using the muscles in the part of your body affected by edema, especially your legs, may help pump the excess fluid back toward your heart. Elevation, Massage, Compression, Protection, Reduce salt intake.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
