Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a healthy 60yr old female. I just had my annual physical. All good. My only real health issue is pernicious anemia. So, last evening out of nowhere my eyesight became strange. Hard to describe, but it was like I was seeing vertical blinds going up and down on (what appeared to be my left eye) kind of peripherally It was like flashing & jumping squiggly lines. Although I really couldn't tell which eye it was even covering one then the other. When I put my eyeglasses on to read, it was like I wasn't seeing the center. Again, I couldnt really tell if it was one eye and not the other or not. This lasted approx. 20min and then was gone. Today I am fine. It was very strange and quite scary.

1. eye symptoms experienced by you could be due to optic disc swelling [papilledema] secondary to raised Intracranial pressure [ITP], so you need to consult an Ophthalmologist for careful history and examination to exclude other causes of optic disc swelling like optic neuritis, central retinal artery or vein occlusion.
2. In pernicious anemia there is deficiency of Vit. B12 resulting in tiredness, respiratory problems, diarrhea, anxiety and tingling in the extremities and since Vit. B12 is manufactured only by bacteria thus found naturally in animal products [true vegetarians thus can suffer from the deficiency]
Take: cheese [Swiss /mozzarella], eggs, shell fish, liver [beef],fortified soy products, fortified cereals, and most importantly injectables are preferred so consult a Pathologist/Hematologist to know which option is best for you.
