Suggest Treatment For Persistent Abdominal Pain And Blood In Urine

Hello, I ve been having persistent abdominal pain on and off for over a year now, it has been so painful before that I have been taken to A&E. The past few days I have had a change in bowel movements, with my abdominal pain, and this morning I noticed blood in my stool and I had an orange/yellow jelly like substance/discharge coming from my anus and was wondering if I should get it checked it out?

Hi,

Yes, you need to get your symptoms checked. The nature of blood such as fresh blood which would be bright red in colour or dark red colour should be noted. Since history of discharge from anus has been mentioned, anal abscess or fistula should be ruled out. Complete blood count and blood sugar should be taken.

Causes of rectal bleeding including hemorrhoids, anal fissure, proctitis, Crohn's disease, diverticulosis, ulcerative colitis, rectal ulcer, rectal prolapse, ischemic colitis, angiodysplasia, rectal trauma, anal carcinoma should be ruled out.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
