Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have had a bad cold and terrible cough for a week. It is not really getting worse, but it is not getting any better. I am blowing my nose, which has much thick white drainage, and have a deep cough. I have used Mucinex DM for a week and taken Benzontate (200mg) for the cough. I don t feel the Benzontate has helped my cough at all. I have a prescription which I have not filled for Cefdinir. The NP felt it is a virus. Now I am wondering what I can do to get better. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
You are already under treatment, but still symptoms are not subsiding. So, do complete hemogram, chest x-ray, sputum routine and culture.
You can take tablet Amox Clav, tablet Okacet Cold, and Nasoclear nasal drops locally. Do steam inhalation and gargling with warm water and betadine, keep yourself hydrated and maintain proper hygiene.
I will suggest you to follow up with detailed history or consult with chest physician for detailed examination.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Shyam B. Kale
