My father in law is now about 70 yrs old. He is physically & mentally bold in nature. He is suffering with cough & cold entire the year, especially while he smell some smoke. When he smelled smoke of some burnt article like straw, paper etc. his illness reach in acute condition & he lie down on bed with seviour cough. Please advice me what to do in this situation.
Understanding your concern. As per your query your father in law have symptoms of persistent cold and cough which seems to be due to upper respiratory tract infection or poor immunity of body. Need not to worry. He should avoid exposure to allergen such as smoke and any smoking article as that will exaggerate their condition. Avoid intake of cold carbonated beverages. Avoid intake of sharp spicy food. Visit ENT specialist once and get it examined and start treatment after proper prescription. You should maintain oral hygiene. Do warm saline gargles. You can go for blood and sputum tests as well. You should take proper course of antibiotics along with antiinflammatory medications. You should apply mist humidifiers in room and take throat lozenges.
