HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It would best not to give her the steroid unless she is wheezing or there is another medical reason indicated by a doctor.
If steroids are given to children unnecessarily it affects not only bone growth but other organs such as the heart, liver and reproductive system.

It would be best for her NOT to use steroids unless absolutely indicated.

The same applies to antibiotics. Most cough and colds are viral not bacterial and antibiotics are not needed or helpful unless the doctors indicate that she has a bacterial infection.

As you may know , persistent use of antibiotics can lead to antibiotic resistance and MRSA.

Children her age are expected to have possibly 10 cough/colds a year because their immune system is not developed as yet.
A cough can last up to 6 weeks so it is not usual for her to have symptoms after a week.

If she is eating well and active then you can continue using the over the counter cough meds, remember these meds do not get rid of the cold only reduce symptoms.

If she is not eating or she is inactive then you should take her to be assessed.

I hope this helps
