Suggest Treatment For Persistent Cough While Having Pneumonia
HI my Mom is 80 years old and was diagnosed by an immediate care Dr with pneumonia 5 days ago. The Dr prescribed a Z-pac. She has taken the course of medication and is still suffering from a severe cough. What should we be doing to ensure that she has the best care to get better?
Understanding your concern. As per your query your mom have symptoms of persistent cough while having pneumonia which is due to severe upper respiratory tract infection. It seems due to poor immunity of body you are highly susceptible and prone to infections. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to start with course of antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist without any delay . Doctor may order blood test , throat swab test or virus culture test. You should get an x ray of the chest. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics amoxicillin at least for 10 days along with mucolytic agents. Go for complete blood count and platelet count to rule out any hidden systemic pathology. You should avoid hot, sharp and spicy foods. For now do warm saline rinses , take rest. Avoid taking cold beverages. You should take mast cell stabilizers to prevent from infection.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
