Suggest Treatment For Persistent Cough

with a 3 year old, cold symptoms (congested; runny nose), no fever but a cough that has lasted off and on for 3 + weeks - taking cough medicine for a couple weeks. Shouldn t the cough be subsiding? Is there concern for the lack of improvement with that cough? How long should cough medicine be given?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The underlying cause of cough would be a matter of concern and that needs to be treated and not the cough, if this is an allergic cough then it gives a much better response to an antihistamine, if the cough symptom is more than a couple of weeks then it has to be brought to investigations.

Lower respiratory infection needs to be ruled out and it is the matter of concern in real, I would advise seeing a pediatrician.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
