Hi: I have had a dry hacking persistent cough for 3 months now. First it was with the flu so I was not worried, the flu was gone in a week cough still persisted. I have been taking halls, honey and hot water, honey and turmeric nothing is getting any better. Last month I got the flu again and of course cough still persisting. Flue is gone but cough is still there. what could be the problem
although cough of this duration needs investigation (at least a chest X-ray), this is probably a case of post-infectious cough. Post-infectious cough may last for up to a couple of months after the respiratory tract infection. Since you've got a second infection, it is not strange that the cough lasted three months. The cough should get better over time.
If the cough is irritating and frequent then you should talk with your doctor to exclude various pathogens that may cause protracted cough like Bordetellapertussis (antibiotics would be indicated). Otherwise you can try an ipratropium inhaler, which sometimes helps with post-infectious cough.
I hope I've helped! You can contact me again, if you'd like any clarification or further information.
Kind regards!
