Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
If you re hooked up to an IV at the hospital the needle put on the top of the hand and then moving the iv around trying to find a vein is there damage that could be done because since i have had pain starting w/my fingers all the way up to the back of my shoulder and pins and needles, or does it sound like a pinch nerve, I have arthritis all over. my doctor is sending me for therapy but its not helping and in great pain. any suggestions?
As per my clinical experience, there are 2 issues possible in this case as:
A. Thrombophlebitis due to vein puncture which will respond very well with ice application, anti-inflammatory drugs and arm elevation.
B. Cellulitis following thrombophlebitis which requires a high-resolution ultrasound for in-depth evaluation and further management.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Purva Patel,
General & Family Physician
