Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi. I know I have heel spurs. I am almost 55, et I ve been gimping around to get through it. Been taking Advil with no relief. Nor would I want cortisone shot in my lt.heel!!!!! What else helps????????????? I ve been stretching my foot as far as it will go when pain is at it s worst
I understand your concern. Heel spurs, while often painless, can be very frustrating when they become painful. Analgesics and exercise usually help, but it seems like they bring little relief to you. Wearing comfortable shoes is usually recommended. Cortisone shots are another alternative, and I understand why you are not eager to take them. So the only other way to get rid of heel spurs is surgical removal. It's a small procedure, done under local anesthesia and takes care of the problem once and for all. Of course, there is a recurrence possibility and can be prevented by wearing shoes with a sole that absorbs shock, by losing weight if overweight, by warming up the muscles prior to physical activity and by maintaining a proper gait so as to avoid that all the body weight goes to the heel.
Wishing you all the best.
