Suggest Treatment For Persistent High Fever In A Child

My 13 year old son has had a fever for just over 2 days.....between 100 and 103. Dayquil doesn t seem to reduce the fever much. He has some cough....not much. Very little body and headache on Sunday evening. Breathing fine. No stomach issues. No ear pain. Low energy but not lethargic.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello Dear. Some times viral fever will last for 2 or 3 days or sometimes for a week. Give your child Dayquil for another day, 2 caplets every 4 hours. If the fever is still persistent, high degree then kindly go to a doctor. Blood investigations and urine analysis may be required. Blood investigations like Complete blood count, Malarial parasite, widal test for typhoid, platelets, dengue, lepto, urine analysis may be required. After a detailed work up if any of this is positive then appropriate treatment for the condition is required. If all tests are negative then it may be just a viral fever and with same Dayquil it will subside in a couple of days.

Hope i have answered your question. Feel free to contact me if you have any more questions. I ll be glad to help you.
All the best
With warm regards
