Suggest Treatment For Persistent High Fever In A Child
My granddaughter has had a fever since Friday. First fever was 103, Tylenol brings the fever down, everyday the fever returns, and Tylenol brings it down. Child was taken to dr yesterday and could find nothing wrong. Tested for flu and strep throat both, both tests came back negative. Today fever went to 104.9. Returned to dr and we are awaiting results of blood work. Child looks like she is in a daze. What could be happening. Thanks.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
As per your query your granddaughter is suffering from persistent high fever which seems to be due to viral or bacterial infection and could be coinfection.
Need not to worry. You should maintain complete hygiene. You should do tepid sponging t o lower down fever. I would suggest you to visit pediatrician once and get it examined. You should get blood tests done and start treatment after proper diagnosis. Avoid giving child any sharp spicy food. Take diet rich in fresh juices and fruits. Drink plenty of water and fluids. You should take anti-allergic medication along with proper course of antibiotic along with Ibuprofen. Avoid intake of outside food.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
