Hello,

Persistent hip and groin pain is one of the common symptoms in the elderly. A few causes are degenerative lumbar disc disease, lumbosacral disc herniation, avascular necrosis of femoral head, femur neck fracture, hamstrings injury, hip tendinitis and bursitis, lumbosacral spondylolisthesis, iliopsoas tendinitis, meralgia paresthetica and slipped capital femoral epiphyses.

As you had the MRI done and it showed some disc bulging, we can attribute your pain to lumbosacral disc problem. I also recommend MRI of hip joint to rule out other causes like avascular necrosis of femur head. If you don't have any kidney dysfunction, you can use NSAIDs such as ibuprofen and Aceclofenac for pain control. Corticosteroid like prednisolone 5mg can be used for 1 week and then slowly tapered. Acetaminophen and Tramadol hydrochloride can also be used as analgesics.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
