Suggest Treatment For Persistent Itching On Hands When Diagnosed With Pruritus
I have been diagnosed with brachiolradial pruritis. I have been itching my arms for over 4 years. I have tried 6 doctors, locally. I have tried every ointment, cream, lotion that is out there. I have been on gabepentin for 3 years. I do not like taking it. It makes me sleepy, my ankles swell and it is not that effective. I am trying to get into Mayo clinic without much success. My next attempt will be Duke university Hospital. I live in South Carolina. Do you have any advice?
As first-line management, you can apply low potency steroid creams like betamethasone for symptomatic relief. If the lesion persists, it is better to consult a dermatologist and get evaluated. You can also take an antihistamine like cetirizine for itching.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
