Suggest Treatment For Persistent Itchy Rash On The Body

I have had for the past two years an itchy body rash that has now progressed over 60% of my body and none of my doctors, oncologist, gastroenterologist, primary, or arthritis, has a cause or solution. I went to a dermatologist two years ago when the rash was just on my legs and none of the dermatology tests were positive for auto immune, lupus, sclederma, HIV, eczema, psoriasis, etc. The dermatologist sent me to the oncologist who found I have multiple myeloma but they say the rash is not associated with that. My primary doctor sent me to WVU this summer to see what they could find. She did a biopsy on my leg and her conclusion was it could be linked to my arthritis but after doing more bloodwork for lupus, etc. he says no. He wants to start me on a low dose of prednisone steroid, but they have a lot of side effects. When I show it to the oncologist, the comment is that is looks like a vascular issue. what are your thoughts?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Since the rash is spreading & you have itching with irritation it can be due to pin-worms, untreated yeast infection, allergic rash (lichen sclerosis), genital warts & STD. Get physically examined & have all STD screening tests done.

You may need antibiotics, antivirals, avoid sex for a couple of days. Get treated along with your sexual partner. Avoid unprotected sex. In the meantime, you can take Albendazole or Mebendazole under a PCP. Apply Hydrocortisone cream locally for relief from itching.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
