Hello,

Pain in the knee has causes like injury or trauma, arthritis which may be osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, septic arthritis, reactive arthritis, or joint effusion, bursitis or inflammation of bursa, meniscus tears, or cruciate ligaments tears.

Sometimes only an X-ray may not show the pathology. MRI knee joint may be necessary to know about meniscal tears. Ultrasound imaging of knee helps in determining if any fluid is accumulated in the knee.
So please discuss the same with your orthopedic surgeon.

For pain relief, you can take NSAIDs like ibuprofen twice daily for 1 week. To prevent gastric irritation, tab. Pantoprazole 40 mg can be taken before food once daily. Opioids can also help in pain relief like hydrocodone, Tramadol etc.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
