Suggest Treatment For Persistent Left-sided Lower Back Pain

HI. I was stretching after a mild jog/walk several months ago and something in my left lower back a couple inches to the left of my spine pulled. It hurt so bad I struggled to breath and was nearly in tears. It hurt very bad for a couple days after that but the pain dulled. I still have constant pain in that area that nothing I do (stretching or popping my back) seems to help. What do you think would be the cause of this.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. According to history you are having soft tissue strain. Pain could be from muscular strain. You need to take rest and avoid strenuous work. Avoid prolonged standing and forward bending Heavy weight lifting avoided Ibuprofen like anti-inflammatory drug might be prescribed.

Local part USG can be done. Physiotherapy will be beneficial for muscular strain. If spinal cause is suspected then x ray or MRI like work up will be needed. Consult physician or orthopedic surgeon for examination.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Parth Goswami
