Hello. I am very worried about this but both of my legs have been feeling numb for almost a year now and it s annoying. Also I am worried that it could be my arteries that have hardened. Then again would I have had a heart attack by then? It s been almost a heart. My legs tend to hurt a lot. Sometimes when I stand up they constantly burn with a very sharp numbness feeling

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and thanks for writing.

I can understand your concern and would try to help you in the best possible way. Your problems may be related to a peripheral neuropathy or any peripheral vasular disease. I suggest you should be evaluated for the same.

You may consult a physician who would obtain a full medical histroy and complete physical examination inculding a few diagnostic tests like blood tests, imaging studies, nerve conductin studies and others to get to a diagnosis.

Once a diagnosis is made then you would be started on a comprehensive managment plan which would include physical therapy or medications.
