Suggest Treatment For Persistent Rashes On The Calves

A rash, started 5 years ago, calves only, now has spread everywhere and has become acute, peeling skin, itching, now beginning to break the skin. Worried now about infection in the cracks of the skin. Diagnosis by local dermatologists, so far only dermatitis or excema . None of the creams have worked. Becoming depressed because it has gone on for such a long time. What kind of specialist can one go to, to diagnose this properly? What about a parasite, allergies, what???

Hi,

Rashes over the calves that has spread to other areas with peeling skin, itching and breaking of skin can be due to allergic reaction that can be dermatitis. Yes, Eczema can be a cause. I would suggest you to consult an Immunologist or a Dermatologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like allergic tests like Patch test, RAST test, food challenge test etc can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly.

The allergist can advise to oral anti allergics as well as injectable steroids for relief. As of now you can take anti-allergics like Levocetirizine, Allegra to control the itching and swelling. Do cool compresses. Application of calamine lotion can help in soothing the skin. You can also be instilled an immunotherapy that will help in reducing the severity and frequency of allergic attack.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
