Suggest Treatment For Persistent Shingles Infection

my current shingles began 3-4 weeks ago. i took the antiviral medication, pain is now gone, AND now i seem to have what looks like full blown chickenpox. Hundreds of red dots across my abdomen, side, and in the area where the shingles was worst, my armpit and the outer side of my armpit, it is welt-y and itches like mad. all the readings i have done on line do not say that CHICKENPOX can follow shingles. Why is this not addressed? 7/3/16 AB

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms seem to be related to chicken. Chickenpox is a viral infection. I suggest using anti histamine such as Cetirizine 10 mg daily to relieve the itching. I also suggest using Menthol powder for local application.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
