What diagnosis does a person have if their throat hurt after losing their voice during a cold. One of my family member said his throat hurt after the fever was gone and it has been going on for 2 weeks. His throat hurt when he swallow and he needed great effort to talk. He had been drinking warm water everyday but nothing helps. He doesn t have any other symptoms other then his throat hurt when he swallow and using great effort to talk. He tries to not talk as much.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello
Welcome to health care magic.
Throat pain with fever is due to acute pharyngitis/layryngitis.

Antibiotic course with erythromycin 3-4 times a day for 5-7 days needs to be done to get rid of infection.(prescription drug)
Dextrometorphan lozenges may give throat pain relief.
Continue salt water gargles or betadine gargles thrice a day.
If the symptoms donot relieve in 3 days or high fever develop, consultation with ENT surgeon would be required.
Hope this information helps.
Thanks
