Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I m 43 and have been experiencing vagina dryness for about a month and a half. My period, which has changed over the last couple of years, is never late but is now 6 days late. I ve taken two pregnancy tests and both have come back negative. Could this be peri-menopause? Could it be something else?
Vaginal dryness is common and usually result of lack of estrogens but some other less common causes may be present.
The most common treatment for vaginal dryness due to low estrogen levels is topical estrogen therapy.
In order to keep the vagina more lubricated, try using a vaginal moisturizer (Replens). You use a disposable applicator such as Vagifem to insert a tablet into your vagina once a day for the first two weeks of treatment.
Avoid using douches, bubble baths, scented soaps, and lotions around the sensitive vaginal area. These products can worsen dryness.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
