Suggest Treatment For Pityriasis Rosea

how do you treat and ELIMINATE pityriasis rosea? erythrocin/erythromycin and a potent topical corticosteroid (clobex) seem to do the trick, as what the dermatologist that I went to prescribed in treating it but this is the second time that I got an outbreak of this skin problem after about/within 6 months or so treating it. I ve been applying benadryl itching cream ovc, hydrocortizone ovc, antihistamine pills ovc, take cold showers and dove soap, tried to get as much sun light to lessen the itch and eliminate it but it does not seem to do the trick at all, especially using a really weak cortizone cream ovc when majority of the cream is only 1% vs clobex at 5% . There are nothing stronger available ovc except prescription, I also apply some lotion as it also helps restrain myself from itching. I m afraid that even if using what was prescribed by the dermatologist again that it would have another possible outbreak later on, which I DO NOT WANT and its very irritating and extremely expensive to purchase these prescription drugs and ovc medicine. So how can I elminate this problem? Does nutrition/diet have any involvement? using ovc and for the skin to heal itself between 4-8 weeks is too long and inefficient.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Pityriosis rosea is skin rash red in color, oval shaped, mildly itching. It is seen on chest, back, face and abdomen. It is known to be viral in origin. It mostly automatically vanishes in 6-8 months. Till then do skin care with moisturizer with steroid or anti allergic ointment. Antibiotics can help Few patients need antiviral medication. Please be in touch with a skin specialist.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
