Suggest Treatment For Plugged Ears After Diving

I have a plugged ear after I did my first time dive 2 days ago? I have hard time to hear on that ear. It was my certification dive to be a certified scuba diver last weekend. So actually, I did 4 dives in 2 days last weekend. Since then, my left ear is plugged. It started after the very first dive, gotten worse gradually during subsequent dives. I was hoping that it would get better, but it is not getting better. I did equalize repeatedly during the dives. Some of them may be forceful, my nose did bleed 2x during them

Hello,

Ideally when your ears get plugged you should avoid taking continuous dives. Anyways, you can use nasal decongestants to help reduce any swelling in the eustachian tube or nasal mucusa so that the fluid from the middle ear gets drained out. Sipping water and swallowing may help. Chewing a hard candy or gum may help open the eustachian tube. Antihistamines may help.

Since you have hard time hearing with the affected ear, you are suggested to get clinically examined by an ENT and get audiometry test done before the symptoms get worse to rule out eardrum rupture (partial / complete). You will be treated with medicines or surgery as per detection of the factor (pathology) causing you discomfort.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
