Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
last night I was awoken with feelings of vertigo, the room was moving each time I opened my eyes, this seemed to last quite a while a couple of hours I think, I have had this before and was diagnosed with positional vertigo, however before it was only when I turned over in bed, and only lasted for minutes should I feel concerned?
hello i can understand your concern...well first and foremost i must tell you the underlying cause of positional vertigo..the culprit is the part of ear called as inner ear in which there are 3 small fluid filled canal like structures called as semicircular canals...the abnormal movements of particles and fluids in this portion leads to the vertigo with the movements of the head in different directions, hence the name positional vertigo i would suggest you to visit a ENT specialist for the remedy the various treatment options includes --
(1) Canalith Repositioning -- your ENT specialist will teach you some simple postures and movements of head to reduce your vertigo
(2) prescription drugs
(3) surgery
hope the above information solves your query to the best of my capabilities best wishes and regards
