Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
i would like to discuss my feelings with you, as my partner believes there is some wrong with me. i had my daughter 8 weeks ago. i find that i have no interest with her, i dont feel like bonding with her. her screaming really gets on my nerves and i begin to loose my temper. i am not bothered about leaving her with my parents. i dont feel like i love her. my partner and parents are totally obsessed with her and love taking care of her and i dont see anything that they do. my father constantly says she is cute. i just look at her and see a baby, doesnt even feel like my own baby. i feel like i have no life. i feel like me and partner arent together any more and that we just live together. i feel very rejected by him, like he doesnt want me around him and he doesnt want to spend any time with me. i dont feel he loves me and i certainly cant feel his love for me. he says he does but why do i feel he is so distant? he has no interest in having any sort of sexual relationship even though i was capable many weeks ago and he is fully aware of it. i feel like i have to nag and beg him to hug me and kiss me every day. i feel like i am not good enough for him and that he is rejecting me. i have accused him of cheating because i feel so distant. i feel so lonely and unloved. i feel alone even thou i am surrounded by a house full of people. i feel that no one understands me and im too scared to talk about it because people might judge me. i really need help because im so unhappy constantly feeling rejected. i hope you can help.
I have read your query and I can understand your problem. Some females develop mood swings and depressive symptoms post delivery but these symptoms improve with time and don't need specific treatment. These symptoms are called post partum blues. If symptoms become severe and show severely depressed mood, apathy towards baby, rejection sensitivity, poor care and love for baby then it might be due to post partum depression or psychosis and need treatment. I would advise you to consult a psychiatrist for proper treatment. This will also reduce abnormal feelings of your husband towards you. Medicines like low dose anti-psychotics as Olanzapine, Risperidone can help to improve the condition. Anti-depressants like Fluoxetine, Escitalopram also result in improvement. Talk to your parents and husband and visit a psychiatrist, the situation will improve with proper treatment. If no treatment is taken then there are risks that it may progress to full blown depression.
Thanks, hope this helps you.
