My husband has chronic heartburn, he was on Diclophenac for several years and now has managered to take himself off of it, but the heartburn continues! He has been taking Prilosec for about a year now, but after this came out on the news about dementia, he wants yo stop taking it too. Do you have any suggestions for him to try? Understanding your concern. As per your query you have prolonged chronic heartburn . Well the symptoms you mention in query occur due to dysfunction of esophageal sphincter of stomach . The condition you mention in query can be corrected with medicine as well as life style changes . I would suggest you to consult gastroenterologist for proper examination . Doctor may order endoscopy , ultrasound , ambulatory acidity test . Doctor may prescribe H2 blockers , proton pump inhibitor . For now take light and non spicy meal , take small and frequent meals , take antacid after every meal and walk for 15 minutes after every meal . Sometimes doctor may recommend surgery for correction of the condition in severe condition .
