Suggest Treatment For Prolonged Dementia

hi my name is doretta...my mom has had dementia for 5 years or so. i come from an unusually close family and have just left NJ and moved to FLA thinking my mom would not know i even left. for months she did not. and then just the other day she voiced her "understanding" why i left. i was my mom's "mainstay" in NJ and now i'm gone

I can understand your concern. Your mother has dementia for last 5 years. Dementia is a organic mental condition and usually occurs with severity in advancing age. In most of individuals with dementia evaluation with a psychiatrist is advised. She should undergo MMSE or mini mental status examination to find out extent of dementia.

For dementia medicines like Donepezil, Rivastigmine, Memantin etc are commonly used. Apart from this other supplement medicines like Vitamin E, B12 also help to improve the cognition. Proper support from family and caregivers is must for quick response of treatment. Visit a psychiatrist for her evaluation.
