Suggest Treatment For Prolonged High Fever And Headache In Children
My 7 year old daughter has been running a fever on and off for 2 weeks now. Seems to spike up whenever she engages in any physical activity, and is accompanied by a headache and stomached ache. Was looked at by doctor on Friday who said everything was clear and may be viral, should we be testing for something else since it has been over 14 days now?
Prolonged fever with headache reminds me of conditions that could affect you like malaria, meningitis, brain abscess, leptospirosis, encephalitis, enteric fever, viral tonsillitis, acute otitis media or ear infection, or urinary tract infection.
In my opinion, necessary tests are peripheral smear, urine examination, urine culture and sensitivity, blood culture, and spinal tap for CSF examination. Thorough clinical examination once again for any missed signs is essential. Please do contact your physician and discuss the above possibilities.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
