Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was just recently diagnosed with prostate cancer via biopsy. Two of the twelve samples came back as cancerous (Gleason of 6 and 7) with my most recent PSA being 5.2 down from my last PSA of 6. Met with doctor discussed options and going in I was pretty much set on surgery to remove prostate. Apparently unknown if has spread outside prostate and won t know until prostate remove and pathologist examines. Now just wondering if watching/monitoring may be best option....am 58 years old and over past 8 months or so have been treated for prostate infection.... Thoughts?
Prostate cancer is the commonest cancer in men world wide. It starts from age of 40 years and increases with age. Treatment can be by medicines, chemotherapy, surgery and radiotherapy. Some times you can do one or combine all depend on your locality and the stage. All treatments are effective and it's easily curable irrespective of stage. PSA levels follow up is the best. Any level above 4ng/l is significant.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Mutuma Geoffrey Zambezi
