General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You have been prescribed methotrexate. Methotrexate is commonly prescribed to treat arthritis or other diseases after other medications have been tried without successful treatment of symptoms. If it is not working, you are suggested to discuss it with your treating doctor so that the medicine can be replaced with some other medication that suits you better. Get a follow up clinical examination done.

You are encouraged to stay active, avoid sedentary lifestyle. Do exercises under a Physical therapist so that your joints stay well lubricated and less painful. Take vitamin E rich food and supplements. Increase the amount of vitamin B6, B12 in your diet. Take food rich in minerals like calcium, magnesium, etc. Take supplements if required.

Cut on addictions if any. Add anti-inflammatory food in your diet like turmeric, green tea, berries (raspberry, blueberry), leafy greens (spinach, kale, etc), brocolli, garlic, etc. If you still have discomfort you can take NSAIDS (Combiflam, one SOS when needed). Maintain a healthy BMI.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
