Suggest Treatment For Psychosis And Depression

I was diagnosed with psychosis 13 years back. Was also diagnosed with depression.I have been taking Trinicalmplus, Anxit, Prodep and Bupron for the past 7 years and Trinicalmplus for the past 13 years. I had finished my MA in English Literature when I was diagnosed with psychosis. But subsequently I also finished PhD in the same subject 4 years ago and am working as a Content Developer. I haven t visited my psychiatrist for the past 5 years. But continue medication as prescribed. However, I want to be healed completely and live without medication , but am hesitant to go back to my doctor as he had said in the initial stages that he would cure me within 1 year but it is now 13 years and I have not been cured. Please help.I will be very grateful to you, please.

Hello,

I can understand your concern. It is a good sign that you are feeling to confident to live without help of medicines. However, as you are taking these medications for several years, quitting cold turkey will have chances of developing withdrawal symptoms and relapse of psychosis and depression. You might tapering of doses of medicines to finally quit them.

Thus, an appointment of your doctor is necessary. Sometimes a doctor predicts based on his usual experience the duration a disease may need to cure. However, every patient is different regarding mental health and may take more or less time than prediction to heal. Sometimes telling a depressed person that he will have to take medicines for several years may dishearten them to start therapy at all. So doctors have to hide some facts for better health of patient. I would advise not to have prejudices against the mental health professionals and contact the same or other expert to help you in tapering doses.

I hope this answer helps. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. I will be glad to answer any follow up question you have.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
