Suggest Treatment For Puffy Edema Everywhere My Body
I have been taking Gleevec 400 mg daily for control of GIST . My last ct scan showed no evidence of disease. In the last few weeks my fluid load has become more problematic. I have puffy edema everywhere I had a 10 pound weight gain in 3 days and was directed by my primary doctor to double my 40 mg Lasix to 80 mg whenever this occurs. My tissues are like sponges that depress and stay that way. I am concerned about the effects this much fluid may have on my heart.
I appreciate your concern for the generalized puffy edema. Accumulation of fluid due to salt and water retention is an important adverse effect of Gleevec chemotherapeutic drug. This side effect is commonly seen during the long treatment with Gleevec , it may be associated with high BP and sometimes the fluid gets collected in the lungs causing difficulty in breathing, etc. Now since the scan is not showing the evidence of the GIST you may please consult your doctor whether to continue with Gleevec for how many weeks or months.
Lasix definitely helps in clearing the edema fluid but it also has some side effects on its long run.
Take care of your health.
