Suggest Treatment For Purple And Enlarged Vein On The Tongue

Hi, just eating a salad with tuna and felt as if I had bitten my tongue underneath. The sensation felt as though there was a pop. The vein is enlarged, deep purple, feeling as if the area has been pierced with a sharp object. What is it and do I need to go to the urgent care clinic for exam? Slight throb in left ear. Area is circular no larger than a pea.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...

As per your complain and presentation of symptoms the swollen purple bump under the tongue can be a MUCOCELE which is due to caused due to either clogged duct of the salivary gland or can also be due to ruptured duct of the gland leading to formation of a small lump..
It commonly gets resolved on its own and does not need any treatment..
In case if it is persistent surgical removal has to be done..

If it is not a Mucocele it can be a HEMATOMA formed due to injury to some small blood vessel caused by injury with some hard food leading to pricking of a blood vessel and accumulation of blood into the soft tissues..
Hematoma resolves on its own and does not commonly needs treatment..

You should wait and watch for a week and in case if it does not resolve or sou signs of regression consult an oral physician and get evaluated..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards..
