Suggest Treatment For Purple Bruises On Upper Arm, Blurred Vision And Dizziness

Hi, I have noticed for some time now that I regularly get very small almost perfectly round purple bruises on my upper arm, namely the underneath part. To my knowledge no injury has caused these bruises and they have never been sore. I have recently had a batch of repeat bloods done and over a period of a year they have shown low iron, folate and vitamin B12. I only mention this as I am not sure if they are connected. I have also had blurred vision and a feeling of dizziness/unsteadiness for some time - hence the reason for the blood tests. This unsteadiness/blurred vision I have particularly noticed when walking up stairs and quite often I go to walk up a step and it s as if I have misjudged where the step is and have to try again, quite often having to take a moment to steady myself and re-judge my footing.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

You have blurred vision, dizziness and found to have low iron, folate and vitamin B12. Low iron indicates that you are suffering from anaemia. Low folate and B12 indicates you are suffering from megalobalstic anaemia. B12 and folate are important in the synthesis of hemoglobin. Iron is the essential component of hemoglobin.

Gastritis is the common cause for B12 deficiency. Anaemia causes dizziness, breathlessness, etc. Do complete hemogram to find out the cause for anemia. Iron supplements will help in improving blood hemoglobin level. If gastritis is confirmed, appropriate medication in necessary. Discuss with your physician regarding the same.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
