I have been nursing wounds on my wife s feet for over ten years. One doctor suspects pyoderma gangrenosum. I hove been using hydrofara blue and it has kept infection at bay but no healing is taking place. what else can I do? I have also tried colloidal silver but alas no healing.
Hello. Thanks for writing to us at healthcaremagic
Pyoderma gangrenosum is an ulcerative condition which shows no tendency for spontaneous healing and therefore may continue to extend and involve large areas of the body e.g an entire limb. The condition is a type of neutophilic dermatosis and is commonly associated with underlying malignancy e.g leukemia or myelodysplasia etc. Apart from oral antibiotics to prevent and treat secondary bacterial infection specific treatment of pyoderma gangrenosum is with Oral steroids and Other immunosuppressives like cyclosporin, tacrolimus etc. I would suggest that you seek an appointment with a dermatologist in your region for appropriate investigations particularly for underlying malignancy and most suitable treatment. Pyoderma gangrenosum that is associated with underlying malignancy would respond to specific treatment of malignancy.
