Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I keep having random pain shooting down my leg. It happened last week for a couple days then went away. Now it is back and even worse. Comes on without warning, I get sharp shooting pain from my tailbone to the side of my leg and down making it difficult to stand and walk at times
Based on the history given you seem to be suffering from sciatica due to a pinched nerve in the lower spine.
For such cases I usually prescribe non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug like Aceclofenac twice daily along with Pregablin tablet to be taken once daily at night. I also add tablet Mecobalmin once daily.
Beside medications you need to have certain lifestyle changes such as avoid lifting heavy objects, avoid using soft mattress while taking rest, do regular exercise (walking) and try to reduce the body weight if you are obese.
You also need to undergo X Ray of the spine and MRI scan to find out the exact cause of sciatica.
Hope this answers your query.
