Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been experiencing a problem of waking up at 3 or 3:30 AM feeling hot and with my heart beating hard. Not fast, just hard. It seems to be somewhat related to having more than one drink, or the type of drink. Red wine seems to be the worst. Not sure it is related to that or not though... Never used to cause any problems at all. For other reasons, I had a stress test about 3 months ago and it was normal. I am 60. I also take Metamucil and it seems that there may be some connection to that, but I m not certain. Is it possible that the large intestine while doing a LOT of work would cause the heart to beat harder?
Hi welcome to HCM. I understand your query and concern.
Elevated heart rate can be due to intrinsic heart rhythm abnormalities which can manifest in the form of irregular heart rate and palpitation. You needs evaluation in the form of 24 hour Holter monitoring and a baseline ECG.This can effectively pick up any abnormality.A baseline 2 dimensional echo will also help.Drugs like Metoprolol will help to control the baseline variations along with blood pressure.Radiofrequency ablation will help to offer permanent cure.Complete blood examination for thyroid evaluation will also help.Consult your cardiologist for further help.Post your further query if any. Thank you.
