Suggest Treatment For Rash And Ingrown Hair Infection

Hi I m a 31yr old female and I have a rash on my bikini region. I have shaved for probably 15 yrs or so and i have never had this happen before. Couple days ago I decided to tweeze instead of shave due to the fact that it would last longer and I guess instead of the hair growing back it formed into red spots and turned bigger and became inflamed and now it s itchy as well. I have been reading online what it could be and seems like what I can relate to the most is a ingrown hair infection. It says that the only way I can now treat it would be treating it orally with antibiotics. I have antibiotics at home for when I had a flu. If it s the same antibiotics that I would have to take then i wanted to start taking it if it will make it go away. The antibiotics I have are Amoxicillin Trihydrate. Would that be the same that the doctor would prescribe to treat my problem? If so I would like to save the time and hassle to go to the clinic as I already have the medication. Please Help!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Good day to you. Thanks for the query.
I understand your concern. You have itching and rash on the bikini area. This is inflammation of hair follicles called folliculitis. At this stage you dont need antibiotic tablets. You can apply antibiotic ointment on the rash.
Fusidic acid ointment can be applied in your case 2 times a days for 5-7 days. (make sure you are not allergic to it).
Wash the area with plain water and soap.
Dont use any scented or commercialized liquids.
I would like to review after one week. If your infection dont subside or increases, then we will consider giving oral antibiotics.
Hope this will help you.
