Suggest Treatment For Rashes After Taking Prednisone
Hi, can a sulfa drug (Bactrim) reaction (rashes) reoccur after taking prednisone (4 mg for 6 days)? The rashes disappeared after I took predisone, but after a week or so, rashes started again on my ankle and top of my left foot. I am now taking Benadryl for it, but can only take it at night since it makes me drowsy. Should I go back and see my doctor or will it go away on its own? Thanks!
As per your query you have symptoms of rashes on ankle and left foot which can occur due to bodies response to the trigger factor and could be an allergic reaction.
Need not to worry. I would suggest you give cold compresses to rashes several times a day to prevent from swelling and itching and take over the counter antihistamine drug like Benadryl at night time. Apply calamine lotion / aloe vera gel on rashes. If symptoms still persist the consulting dermatologist for proper examination and treatment. The doctor may perform a skin test to find out the trigger factor and may prescribe steroid cream ointment along with anti-inflammatory drugs.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari, Dentist
